Design and Practicality
Rather than a complete reworking, Mercedes has opted to build on an already solid foundation, adding touches such as a more confident, prominent grille and new rear headlamps featuring the Mercedes-Benz signature star motif. There is also a large panoramic roof that aims to give the GLE Coupé's interior a light, airy feel.
The interior has been reimagined, with upgraded AMG Line Nappa leather multi-contour seating, with plush head cushions and massage functions, while the rear still offers the same luxurious comfort you'd expect from a Mercedes of this calibre.
The boot space remains vast at 655 litres and, if you need more, the rear seats feature a 40/20/40 split that folds down to create up to 1,790 litres of capacity. Perfect for long tours and extended breaks.
Technology and Safety
The GLE Coupé has also been enhanced in the cabin with a superscreen that combines three 12.3-inch digital screens: a driver's display, a central touchscreen, and a dedicated passenger screen for complete immersion in Mercedes-Benz’s latest connected luxury experience. Additional touches, such as illuminated air vents, emphasise the interior's premium ambience.
At the heart of the GLE's technology is an MB.OS system with integrated advanced artificial intelligence (AI) overseeing every aspect of the GLE, with updates delivered across the airwaves. This controls all the GLE Coupé's key functions, including the Energising Air Control, which purifies the interior air every 90 seconds, and E-Active Body Control, which allows the GLE to glide across speed bumps.
Alongside this, the safety features include ten exterior cameras, five radars, and twelve ultrasonic sensors that monitor the exterior environment.
Engines and Performance
In true Mercedes style, the German carmaker has also upgraded the powertrains in the facelifted GLE Coupé, with a pair of powerful petrol and diesel variants featuring mild-hybrid technology. For those who like to add electric power into the mix, there is also a Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé Plug-in Hybrid, which adds a motor and battery to the petrol powertrain.
The core petrol-only variant uses the same 3.0-litre turbo powertrain as the AMG GLE 53 Plug-in Hybrid, except it has been downrated from 443bhp to 375bhp for a smoother drive. There is also a six-cylinder diesel, delivering a confident 282bhp, which offers strong low-end torque balancing refined performance and improved fuel economy for cruising on longer journeys.
At the top of the standard GLE range is a 4.0-litre turbocharged petrol V8 producing 530bhp, delivering a commanding 0 to 62mph sprint in 4.5 seconds.
All GLE Coupés feature 4WD and an automatic gearbox, with the AMG 53 arriving with adaptive suspension and tweaks to the 4WD system for improved performance handling.
