The AMG 63 S is delivered with a biturbo 4.0-litre V8 that develops 612bhp. Vital statistics for the GLE 63 S include a 0 to 62mph time of 3.8 seconds and electronically governed top speed of 175mph.
Harnessing that immense power is a 9-speed AMG automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution; rear-drive is permanently engaged, while the front axle is only driven when required.
The 3.0-litre straight-six engine in the GLE 53 develops 435hp and 383lb ft, and acceleration from 0 to 62mph takes just 5.3 seconds, with 4MATIC all-wheel drive apportioning torque to the wheels with the most grip.
Practicality and Running Costs
The GLE is not a small vehicle by any stretch of the imagination, so unsurprisingly the practicality is excellent across the board.
As standard, there are five seats, which will be a common sight on the used car market. The option for a third row of seats was available from new, so this is worth seeking out if you need a family car with seven seats.
There are 630 litres of boot space, that expands to 2,055 litres when the second (and third if applicable) row seats are down.

Selectable drive programmes include Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, RACE, Trail and Sand. 64-colour Ambient lighting and a Memory package come as standard.
The standard Driving Assistance package includes multiple active safety measures, including Active Distance Assist when in cruise control, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist and Emergency Lane Function.
