Introducing the Porsche Taycan
The Taycan represents a step into a new automotive era for Porsche, who have brought life to the forward-thinking all-electric concept seen here. However, Taycan stays true to the origins that rapidly placed Porsche at the forefront of the market: immense driving pleasure and unparalleled emotion.
The design is unmistakably Porsche, with a sleek and powerful silhouette that combines the brand's DNA with a timeless and futuristic set of attributes. In addition, features such as the deploying door handles, 911-derived seats, and panoramic fixed glass roof, all enhance the feeling of serenity.
With scintillating levels of performance having been complemented by visionary technologies, Taycan is today's sports car of tomorrow.
Chassis and Handling
Every effort has been made to ensure the Taycan glides down the road with minimal interruption from mother nature. Features, such as the lateral Aircurtains and deploying door handles, have been implemented to optimise aerodynamics, which ultimately translates to greater grip and efficiency.
Underneath, the aluminium double wishbone front axle combines seamlessly with the aluminium multi-link rear axle, which translates to incredible levels of grip when exploring the limits. The materials used also ensure weight is kept to a minimum, enhancing the Taycan's cornering prowess and agility.
6-piston aluminium brake calipers feature on the front of the Taycan, with 4-piston aluminium calipers occupying the rear. Combined with the vented brake discs, the Taycan offers immense stopping power and remarkable levels of feel through the brake pedal. Opt for the Taycan S, and drivers will benefit from Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), as well as brake calipers that have been painted in yellow.
Technology and Safety
The Taycan boasts an unmistakable identity that has been enhanced by a number of technological features and assistance systems.
The 4-point headlights boast a floating design that distinguishes the Taycan from any other vehicle on the road, while the LEDs ensure vision is transparently clear when travelling in challenging conditions.
The Taycan features the Porsche Advanced Cockpit, which replaces the majority of mechanical buttons with digital, giving a modern and futuristic feel. A 16.8-inch curved digital display also sits directly in the driver's line of sight, and is surrounded by the control panels with Direct Touch Controls for rapid lighting and chassis alterations.
The central dashboard features a 10.9-inch display, with an 8.4-inch control panel located below it. Through these interactive displays, the driver can control the audio, navigation, media, and telephone. The lower screen can display the battery charge status in addition to the above.
Driver assistance systems include:
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
- Active Lane Keeping
- Lane Change Assist
- Night Vision Assist
- Surround View
Charging
As an electric vehicle, understanding the charging capabilities of the Taycan is crucial. Thanks to an 800-volt charging architecture, the Taycan has some seriously impressive charging stats.
There are multiple different chargers that can be used for the Taycan, each varying in speed. At an 800-volt charging station with a maximum charging capacity of up to 270kW, the Taycan can be charged from 5 to 80 percent in just over 22 minutes. If you only need a range of around 60 miles though, this can take you just five minutes.
The Taycan can also be charged at home with the onboard 11kW charger that comes as standard or with the optional higher-power 22kW charger. A 22kW charger will see the Taycan be fully charged in around nine hours, perfect for charging overnight.
Cross Turismo
The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo model is the perfect balance of off-road capabilities and the typical elegance and luxury of the Taycan.
The Cross Turismo models benefit from a larger interior to provide a comfortable experience and plenty of space for everyone onboard, as well as 446 litres of boot space that can expand to 1,212 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Compared to the Taycan, the Cross Turismo has also been made physically larger with ground clearance increasing from 127mm to 146mm thanks to altered wheel arch covers, side skirts, and specific front and rear aprons.
There is also a driving mode available called Gravel Mode, which is specific to the Cross Turismo and allows you to drive in trickier terrains like gravel and mud.
The Cross Turismo is available in the 4, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S specifications, each with more power and performance with the Turbo S topping out at 616bhp and a 0 to 62mph time of just 2.9 seconds.
Sport Turismo
A sportier design and impeccable driving dynamics. That is what you will get from the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models.
Benefitting from Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the Sport Turismo models get additional stability by adapting the damping force to your driving style, the road surface, and the adaptive air suspension.
In terms of size and practicality, the Sport Turismo models have the same luggage space as the Cross Turismo making them more practical than the Taycan, but the car itself is 10mm shorter and 20mm lower than the Cross Turismo models.
An optional SportDesign Package is also available which adds sporty features like a uniquely designed rear diffuser with black fins, distinctive sill trim panels, and a SportDesign upper valance with licence plate holder.
Adaptive Sports Seats are also available as standard on the Turbo, Turbo S, and GTS trims which are made from racing approved Race-Tex microfibre material and provide a memory function for the seat position as well as exceptional ergonomics.
The Taycan Sport Turismo is available in the standard Sport Turismo trim as well as the 4S, GTS, Turbo, and Turbo S specifications, starting with 322bhp for the Sport Turismo increasing all the way to an astonishing 616bhp on the Turbo S variant.
