28th Jul 2021

What is your #Outspiration?

Nothing quite beats the great outdoors. Picturesque scenery, fresh air, and mother nature's gentle breeze are all aspects that make an adventure just that little bit more enjoyable.

In Britain, we are immensely fortunate to have access to some of the finest countryside across the globe. You may choose to explore your nearest national park, or perhaps you desire travelling further afield to an entirely different county. Either way, a great outdoor adventure is never far away.

As some of the world's most versatile vehicles, a Land Rover makes the perfect companion for any outdoor experience. Ranging from urban explorers through to dedicated off-roaders, there is a Land Rover for every occasion.

The question is: which one is your #Outspiration?

Defender: The Legendary One

The Defender of old may have been widely recognised for its no-nonsense approach to tackling challenging terrains, but it was never known for offering a luxurious driving experience.

Reimagined for the 21st century, the latest model changed that narrative. In fact, we compared the current generation with its predecessor to highlight the key differences.

Design cues from the previous generations are present and correct, but a host of new engines and a sumptuous interior design ensure the Defender is ready for life on and off the road.

The short wheelbase Defender 90 is well-suited to the urban jungle, with the long wheelbase Defender 110 making a fine choice for larger families. Features such as Configurable Terrain Response ensure you have optimal control over the Defender, regardless of where your route takes you.

With a sleek silhouette and dimensions that are smaller than the majority of its siblings, the Discovery Sport is the Land Rover for families that want a versatile and compact SUV.

The Discovery Sport, with its all-wheel drive traction and Terrain Response 2 off-roading system, is perfect if you want a luxurious SUV that will not surrender at the first sight of tough terrain. In addition, it can seat up to seven people in comfort, making it ideal for larger families.

Should you not need seven seats, then the third-row will conveniently fold down completely flat, revealing an exceptional 1,179 litres of boot space; essential if you are a dog owner.

Land Rover Discovery Sport accessories

With a towing capacity ranging between 1,800kg and 2,200kg, the Discovery Sport will have no issue hauling trailers or other outdoor equipment. Accessories, such as the tow bar mounted bike carrier and aqua sports carrier (for kayaks), reiterate the Discovery Sport's position as a do-it-all family SUV.

Those wanting more interior space than the Discovery Sport will no doubt appreciate the Discovery. Having been a staple part of the brand's model portfolio since the 1980s, the Discovery has garnered a reputation for offering excellent road manners and an unrivalled off-road driving experience.

An elegant interior that is brimming with the latest technologies and safety features make the Discovery a compelling choice for families that travel on long distance adventures regularly. In-built apps such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are welcome ones in the modern age, and no doubt improve any journey.

The Discovery's latest range of engines incorporate mild hybrid (MHEV) technology, which ultimately reduces emissions and improves the distance travelled between refuelling. In addition, each Discovery comes fitted with Electronic Air Suspension as standard; an essential feature that proves useful when unloading and loading cumbersome items, such as sports equipment.

Those looking to make a statement during their adventures should consider exploring the Range Rover Evoque. An elegant design is joined by hybrid technology to make the Evoque a sophisticated SUV for couples or young families.

With such an eye-catching appearance come a number of different configurations, allowing you to tailor the Evoque to your tastes. In fact, we asked five of our associates to configure their own Evoque so you can get an idea of how much choice is available.

Range Rover Evoque off-roading ability

Make no mistake though, the Evoque is more than just a pretty face. Torque can be effectively distributed through the front and rear axles courtesy of the all-wheel drive system. In addition, the brand's advanced Terrain Response 2 system ensures the Evoque has little issue dealing with challenging terrains and road surfaces.

Range Rover Evoque accessories

Useful accessories are available that merely enhance the Evoque's ability to tackle the countryside. A stainless steel undershield will no doubt prove beneficial if you find yourself on awkward inclines on a regular basis, while the foldable pet carrier and luggage partition kit are essential if you have a dog.

Velar: The Avant-Garde One

Beautifully balanced and wonderfully reductive, the Range Rover Velar is a contemporary SUV that is arguably more picturesque than some of the locations you can visit with it.

The only thing more impressive than the appearance are the Velar's driving dynamics. Hybrid technology lowers emissions and reduces fuel consumption, while improving refinement in congested areas. An 8-speed automatic gearbox works effortlessly with the engine to provide a whisper-quiet drive, without having to compromise on responsiveness.

Range Rover Velar off-roading ability

Similar to the Evoque, you will not be struggling for traction in the Velar thanks to the all-wheel drive system and Terrain Response software. Depending on the mode selected, the Velar's traction will be optimised for that selected surface. As a result, grip is strong regardless of where you are driving.

Range Rover Velar accessories

Land Rover accessories that will come in handy include a tow bar kit, since the Velar can haul up to 2,500kg (model dependent). Combine the kit with a bike carrier and you have an elegant SUV that is ready to explore the great outdoors.

No one said you had to compromise on performance when experiencing the wilderness or a new city. The Range Rover Sport epitomises the best of Land Rover, but packages it together with lean muscle.

A striking, yet sophisticated, appearance will undoubtedly garner the attention of those you drive past. Yet the Range Rover Sport is unassuming thanks to its refined driving experience and range of hybrid-powered engines, which further increase comfort while reducing the levels of CO2 emitted.

Naturally, you can change this narrative by selecting a model with the supercharged V8 petrol engine. As a reward, you will experience incredible acceleration and pure aural drama when driving.

Similar to the aforementioned Discovery and Discovery Sport, the Range Rover Sport is available with an optional third-row of seats. This way you can enjoy your next adventure with the whole family. However, if you do not need the extra seats, then the standard model benefits from 780 litres of luggage space; ideal for outdoor equipment or your dog.

Courtesy of all that muscle, the Range Rover Sport can tow up to 3,500kg, making it the perfect companion for hauling larger payloads such as small watercraft. Handily, Trailer Stability Assist is a standard driver assistance feature.

There are few vehicles in the world with a heritage as rich as the Range Rover, which has been the brand's flagship model since it was introduced in 1970.

The remit of the current model is redolent of the original, with a graceful design and immense capability taking centre stage. Because of this, there is arguably no finer vehicle to explore the great outdoors in.

Land Rover's Touch Pro Duo in-car infotainment system offers effortless navigation of its menus, and allows you to effortlessly input your destination into the built-in satellite navigation. Choose from various points of interest along your route and then sink back into the sublime seats as the Range Rover devours the miles ahead.

Range Rover off-roading ability

Above all this, the Range Rover is an outstanding off-roader. The engineered suite of technologies ensure the all-wheel drive system offers optimum traction consistently, while the wading depth of up 900mm is reassuring for those who wish to push the boundaries of exploration a little further.

Range Rover packs

There are a couple of packs worth considering inside the Range Rover. The Entertainment Pack sees a Meridian Surround Sound System fitted alongside a pair of 10-inch monitors in the back; essential for keeping the young ones entertained on a long journey. In addition, the Towing Pack consists of an electrically deployable tow bar, as well as Advanced Tow Assist.
