Introducing the Range Rover Sport SV
The Range Rover Sport SV represents Land Rover's most compelling statement of intent: a versatile SUV engineered by the brand's Special Vehicle Operations division to perform at the very limit of what a luxury road car can achieve.
Three cars in one, the Range Rover Sport SV is genuinely capable of wading through 900mm of standing water, lapping a circuit at 165mph and seating five adults in heated and ventilated comfort.
This is the pinnacle of the Range Rover Sport line-up, positioned above the Autobiography and occupying a class of its own - a car for those who have already experienced the best and expect more.
Design and Practicality
The Range Rover Sport SV carries the DNA of the wider Sport family - the signature floating roof, clean flanks and flush door handles - while possessing its own distinctly purposeful character.
The SV's lower body profiling adds a wider, more planted appearance that hints at the chassis technology beneath. At the front, a bespoke lower apron and quad exhaust outlets at the rear complete a look that is unmistakably SV.
The optional 23-inch carbon fibre wheels took three years to develop and are a world first for a production car. The full set saves 21kg over equivalent forged aluminium wheels, roughly the weight of a large carry-on suitcase. To the driver, this translates directly into sharper steering response and faster acceleration.
Inside, the cabin is a study in restrained luxury. SV Performance seats upholstered in Ultrafabrics™ with 3D-Knit provide exceptional lateral support without sacrificing comfort on longer journeys, while rear passengers enjoy heated and ventilated reclining seating. Genuine carbon fibre and Black Ceramic interior accents clearly underline the SV's sporting intent.
The Range Rover Sport offers a generous boot, making this as much a daily-driver grand tourer as a performance SUV.
Technology and Safety
The Range Rover Sport SV is built around Land Rover's Pivi Pro infotainment system, presented via a 13.1-inch curved glass touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity come as standard, alongside a Meridian sound system - which you can upgrade to a 29-speaker Signature configuration - and wireless device charging. Over-the-air software updates keep the system current throughout ownership.
The Body and Soul Seat system embeds haptic transducers in the seatback that pulse in time with the music playing through the sound system. This technology is borrowed from the professional music world and brings studio-grade physical bass response into the cabin for the first time in a production SUV.
A full suite of driver assistance technology is standard. If you are covering long motorway miles between weekend track sessions, the combination of adaptive cruise with steering assistance and a 3D surround-camera means the SV manages mundane stretches as competently as it handles the rewarding ones.
Engines and Performance
At the heart of the Range Rover Sport SV lies a specially tuned 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 mild hybrid engine producing 626bhp. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive, it covers 0 to 62mph in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 165mph. Up to 553lb ft of torque is available when Dynamic Launch Mode is engaged, delivering traction with striking composure.
A single button on the steering wheel activates SV Mode: the cabin lighting shifts to red, the ride height drops, throttle response sharpens, gear changes quicken and the exhaust opens up. Better still, available Active Quad Exhausts with electronically controlled valve chambers allow you to tailor the car's acoustic character to suit the occasion.
The SV's dynamic credentials extend well beyond the powertrain. Most performance SUVs manage body roll by fitting stiff anti-roll bars, which inevitably compromise ride comfort. The Range Rover Sport SV takes the opposite approach: its 6D Dynamics system uses hydraulically interconnected dampers to control pitch and roll without any anti-roll bars. All-wheel steering, active locking rear differential and a brake-activated torque vectoring system complete a chassis that few vehicles of any body style can match.
