Usually, when someone claims that everyone loves *insert inanimate object*, it is grossly exaggerated and not particularly true. However, that statement is true of the car you see here, because everyone does love a MINI Hatch.

After all, why would they not? This is a British icon that has been reimagined for the 21st century; one that seemingly gets better with every new generation released. In short, the MINI Hatch is a very popular car indeed.

However, some will argue the regular MINI 3-door Hatch is not practical enough for their daily life. So, introducing the MINI 5-door Hatch; all of the legendary traits that make the 3-door Hatch utterly brilliant but with the added practicality of five doors.

Design and Practicality

Die-hard fans may baulk at the concept of adding five doors to the iconic silhouette of the MINI Hatch. They need not worry, because the MINI 5-door Hatch has lost none of the charm with the transition to a more practical body style.

The addition of two extra doors certainly makes it easier when gaining access to the back seats, with the wide door openings making it easy to install a child's seat via the ISOFIX anchor points.

On top of this, the MINI 5-door is a little bit longer than its 3-door sibling and boasts extra headroom. As a result, passengers in the back will be more comfortable, while the increased 278-litre boot capacity is more than enough for the weekly trip to the supermarket.

Technology and Safety

Well-equipped throughout the range, each model gets a sports leather multifunction steering wheel and digital cockpit as standard. Music enthusiasts will appreciate the excellent standard audio, although the optional Harman Kardon Hi-Fi offers more punch.

Sat within the central dashboard is an 8.8-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system that offers seamless connectivity with smartphones. The system works perfectly with the multifunction steering wheel and is very easy to navigate.

Safety is well-covered. The rain sensor automatically activates the wipers so the driver can keep their attention on the road ahead, while features such as the Tyre Pressure Monitor and Dynamic Traction Control system help with maintenance and car control.

Meanwhile, the optional Driver Assistance Pack, with lane departure warnings and Active Cruise Control, ensure drivers can safely drive to their destination.

Engines and Performance

There are a few different engines to choose from, depending on the model selected. There are no diesel variants but the petrol options are so efficient they are not required.

The MINI Cooper comes with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, benefitting from 136bhp. Drivers will benefit from between 47.9 and 50.4mpg on a combined cycle.

A turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine is reserved for the spicier model, which comes in the form of the MINI Cooper S. Producing 178bhp from low down in the rev range, the Cooper S can sprint from 0 to 62mph in just 6.7 seconds.
