What do you need to know?
As part of recent changes to the Government's EV initiatives, there are now significant discounts available across numerous brand-new electric vehicles. Many top manufacturers are eligible to partake in the scheme, and are now automatically offering the discount as part of your deal, so there is no extra leg work required.
To be eligible for the scheme, each model will undergo an examination to determine which level of discount applies. Other criteria includes:
- The vehicle must be priced at less than £37,000 to be eligible.
- Cars with the lowest carbon emissions scores will be eligible for the higher rate savings of £3,750, while vehicles that are eligible for the second level grant will receive a £1,500 discount.
- Eligible vehicles must offer a warranty period of at least 8 years in respect to any traction battery, hydrogen fuel cell stack or hydrogen tank and electric drivetrain, giving you extra peace of mind long term.
- The Government's scheme has a budget of £650m, and the scheme will run until September 2029, or until the budget has been used.
You may also find that some manufacturers are offering their own schemes and incentives in-line with, or in addition to the official Government scheme, allowing you to save on vehicles that may not be officially eligible, too.
