Introducing the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is one of the most celebrated saloons in automotive history — the new all-electric form makes a compelling case for being the most accomplished C-Class ever created. Built from the ground up on Mercedes-Benz’s dedicated MB.EA electric platform, the electric C-Class is not an adaptation of the combustion-engined model but an entirely new proposition: a luxury saloon conceived from the outset to excel as an electric vehicle.
Sitting confidently at the heart of the Mercedes-Benz passenger car range, the electric C-Class brings together exquisite design and cutting-edge technology. It also delivers an impressive range of up to 472 miles. This makes it a natural choice for those who demand the very best in executive motoring, whether that be for daily commuting or long-distance travel.
Design and Practicality
The coupe-like silhouette and flowing roofline give the electric C-Class a sporting, contemporary presence, while the illuminated front grille – incorporating 1,050 LEDs and a distinctive three-pointed star – provides instant recognition after dark. Star-pattern LED headlamps and sculpted wheel arches, available in 18- or 20-inch configurations, complete an exterior with a drag coefficient of just 0.22 — lower than the combustion C-Class it sits alongside.
Boot space stands at 470 litres, with a further 107 litres available in the front storage compartment. This is a practical bonus of the electric platform. The material choices include Nappa leather, open-pore wood and carbonfibre trims, and reviews have noted that soft-touch surfaces extend further down the door panels and console than in the related GLC.
Technology and Safety
At the centre of the cabin sits the optional 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, a continuous display spanning the full width of the dashboard. This combines the driver’s instrument cluster, central infotainment system and front passenger screen in a single pane of glass. All screens are powered by MB.OS, Mercedes-Benz’s new in-house operating system, which delivers over-the-air software updates to ensure the system remains current throughout the car's life.
The MBUX Virtual Assistant uses generative artificial intelligence to understand natural language and anticipate the driver’s needs. Two wireless charging pads on the centre console, ambient lighting that extends across the dashboard, doors and panoramic roof, and an optional Burmester 4D Surround Sound System further enrich the experience.
The driver assistance package is particularly well suited to long-distance use. Adaptive cruise control and active lane-keeping assist reduce the demands of sustained motorway driving, while the predictive AIRMATIC air suspension uses GPS data to prepare the dampers for what the road ahead actually looks like.
Range and Performance
The launch variant is the C 400 4Matic: dual electric motors, all-wheel drive, 483bhp and a 0 to 62 mph time of 4.1 seconds. Mercedes-Benz calls it the sportiest C-Class ever produced. The rear motor has a two-speed transmission, something still rare in electric vehicles. First gear is for acceleration; second keeps the motor in its efficiency sweet spot at speed, which is part of the reason the WLTP range reaches an impressive 472 miles.
At lower speeds, the front motor decouples to minimise energy consumption, while regenerative braking recovers up to 300 kW of energy under deceleration. The optional air suspension keeps the C-Class composed over long distances, which explains why Mercedes-Benz describes the ride quality as comparable to the S-Class.
Charging
Ten minutes at a 330 kW rapid charger adds approximately 200 miles of range — roughly the distance from London to Manchester and back.
For everyday use, overnight charging with a domestic wallbox is the simplest way to begin each day with a full battery. The MBUX system handles route planning with charging stop recommendations and real-time station availability. The optional DC converter ensures the car is compatible with the majority of public rapid chargers currently in use across the UK.
