Design and Practicality
The new Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV introduces refined exterior details, including Mercedes-Benz star motifs placed within the front and rear lights, a subtle nod to the brand’s signature design language. A more confident-looking grille strengthens its front presence, while a panoramic roof opens up the cabin for a spacious, freer, more airy feel.
Stepping inside, you'll notice the interior has been completely reworked and upgraded, with an enhanced steering wheel that revives the roller/rocker switches, plush multicontour seating with massage functions, and optional third-row seating so you can have the new GLE SUV as a spacious seven-seater. Plus, the second bench can automatically move forward at the press of a button to open up more legroom in the third row.
Boot space is never compromised in the new Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV, offering a functional 630 litres with all the seats up and a colossal 2,055 litres with the rear seats folded. What's more, the Mercedes GLE SUV has a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg, ideal for summer tours and long-weekend adventures.
Technology and Safety
Upfront in the cabin, the new GLE SUV comes with an upgraded MBUX Superscreen that spans the entire dashboard. Comprised of three 12.3-inch screens, a driver's display, a central touchscreen, and a dedicated passenger screen, it fully connects you to Mercedes-Benz's MB.OS system with advanced integrated artificial intelligence (AI) that manages all of GLE's functions.
The core version of the GLE features a range of ADAS technologies, such as MB.DRIVE Standard, which comes complete with functions such as MB.DRIVE Parking Assist, which can detect parking spaces and automatically park at low speeds, while DISTRONIC distance control is an adaptive cruise control, keeping a safe distance from the vehicle front.
In addition to these safety features, there are ten exterior cameras, five radars, and twelve ultrasonic sensors that monitor surrounding traffic. With these systems working together, the GLE supports a confident ride in any driving conditions.
Engines and Performance
Not only have the exterior and interior been polished, but all the powertrain options have been refined for better performance and economy, with a pair of petrol and diesel options available. There is also a new Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV Plug-in Hybrid variant that combines a petrol engine with an electric motor. An AMG version of the GLE SUV has also been developed, featuring a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol uprated to 663bhp.
A six-cylinder petrol GLE 450 4MATIC kicks off the range, providing smoother power delivery. Sitting at the top of the standard GLE SUV range is an authoritative 4.0-litre turbocharged petrol V8 producing 530bhp, with a 0 to 62mph sprint of 4.5 seconds. The GLE is also available as a diesel, with two six-cylinder variants on offer for the first time, to better suit those that regularly travel further distances. These come equipped with an electric heating catalyst, helping to bring the exhaust system up to optimum temperature and reducing cold-start emissions.
With 4WD and a smooth automatic gearbox, the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV will master corners and motorway driving with equal ease. The integrated starter generator provides support during the low-speed range which combined with turbocharged power ensures smooth power delivery and enhanced fuel economy.
