Why buy an Approved Used Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Dating back to the late 1970s, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the world's most iconic SUVs, keeping the same silhouette that it had upon initial launch.

Of course, it has been enhanced with neater, more up-to-date styling and plenty of digital interior technology, but the blocky G-Wagen silhouette of the original is still there, showcased proudly.

Engine choice comes in the form of a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine with 322bhp. This means, despite its large size, the G-Class can still accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 6.4 seconds, whilst returning around 30mpg. The real gem of the range is, of course the range-topping G 63 AMG, which uses a 4.0-litre V8 engine pumping out 576bhp, good for 0 to 62mph in just 4.5 seconds. It will be thirsty, though, returning around 21mpg.

Overall running costs are pretty expensive, especially for the AMG variant. Tyres are a considerable cost, but when compared to other premium SUVs, the G-Class is similar. Servicing can be completed at any Stratstone Mercedes-Benz retailer.

Being boxy and old school in its iconic style, there is plenty of interior space, with a massive 640-litre boot, which increases to a van-like 2,010 litres with the rear seats folded.

Are G-Wagon and G-Class the same?

Yes, the official Mercedes-Benz name is G-Class, but they are also known as G-Wagon or G-Wagen.

Why is the G-Wagon so special?

G-Class cars are special because of their iconic history, which dates back to the late 1970s. Today, the silhouette is still the same, with its boxy, iconic shape.

What does the G-Class stand for?

The G stands for Gelandewagen, which means cross-country vehicle.

Why are G-Wagons so expensive?

Like many cars, depreciation means G-Class does become more affordable, especially for older generations, but when new, their iconic timeless design, impressive off-road capability, excellent refinement, choice of engines, and general Mercedes-Benz excellence justify their price.
