Electric driving is here to stay. The ever expanding BMW fully electric range can take you on your journey with zero driving emissions, all-electric ranges between 173-380 miles* and more than 24,000+ UK charging points**, isn’t it time you explored the benefits of electric cars?
What are the different types of hybrid and electric vehicles?
Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV)
Mild hybrid systems assist the ICE and improve fuel economy by harvesting and storing energy that is normally lost when braking.
Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)
HEVs combine an ICE with an electric motor and battery pack that is charged through regenerative braking to offer all-electric driving for short distances.
Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV)
A PHEV uses a similar setup to a HEV, but has a much larger battery pack to offer a more substantial all-electric range. You will need to plug in to fully recharge.
Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)
BEVs only use an electric motor and battery pack for power, producing zero tailpipe emissions and impressive all-electric ranges. There is no combustion engine, so you will need to plug in to recharge.
i Range
The all-electric i3 and the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car launched in 2013 and were the initial faces of the BMW i range.
Joining this pair of innovative vehicles, at a later date, was the higher-performing i3S, with 181bhp and extra athletic design details.
BMW's first all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), which is BMW's name for a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), the iX3 will be joining the line-up at Stratstone BMW dealerships soon and is the electric version of the popular X3.
Displaying BMW's fresh interpretation of design, sustainability, driving pleasure, versatility and luxury; the new all-electric iX also be joined the line-up in 2021.
Each of the BMW i vehicles are powered by BMW's intelligent eDrive technology, feature recycled materials and are developed in eco-friendly manufacturing plants.
Sustainable Materials
BMW uses nylon made from recycled materials to make its headliners and floor mats for the BMW i3, BMW iX and other models.
Daniela Bohlinger, Head of Sustainability BMW Group Design, sees this as a logical consequence of the growing environmental awareness at BMW. “It is important to us to use recycled materials as the basis for these products. Of course any product that is made from recycled materials must look flawless and provide outstanding quality. Plus, compared to petroleum-based nylons, manufacturing nylon from recycled materials produces 90 percent less CO2."
High-Power Charging with Ionity
Back en route in record time: BMW’s partner IONITY provides high-power electric charging stations for ultrafast charging along Europe’s main transit routes.
The technology of the high-performance electric vehicle charging stations automatically optimises the charging speed to the maximum that your high-voltage battery allows. So a short coffee break is usually enough to sufficiently recharge your vehicle.
