Why buy an Approved Used Mercedes-Benz GLA?

The Mercedes-Benz GLA was first introduced in 2013 and looked a lot like a raised A-Class. Fast forward to the second generation, which came along in 2019, and it was presented in a more refined, more familiar SUV presence.

This is indeed the second generation, which received a facelift in 2024 and features a decent array of efficient 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engines are electrified throughout, providing better consumption and emissions, meaning petrols average around 40mpg, whilst the diesel increases to around 53mpg.

Like many Mercedes-Benz models, there is a range-topping Mercedes-AMG model, in the form of the GLA 35 4MATIC, which is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine producing 302bhp, resulting in a 0 to 62mph time of just 5.1 seconds.

Running costs will increase as you go up the range, whilst insurance is fairly reasonable as many GLA sit around the 22/23 group range (50 is the highest) whilst even the AMG performance models sit around group 40.

As for practicality, the GLA offers a decent amount of space with a large 485-litre boot, which increases to 1,430 litres with the rear seats folded.

Is the Mercedes-Benz GLA worth buying?

As an entry-level point into the Mercedes-Benz SUV range, the GLA is ideal if you want a compact SUV that has a more refined character and looks much more sophisticated than many volume manufacturer compact SUVs.

What are the disadvantages of the Mercedes-Benz GLA?

Due to the AMG Line models and high-performance Mercedes-AMG variant, the large alloy wheels on the GLA can increase road noise, so some other premium SUVs may feel more relaxed.

Is a Mercedes-Benz GLA bigger than an Audi Q3?

The Audi Q3 offers a bigger boot (530 litres) along with being a tad bigger overall when compared to the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

What is the smallest Mercedes-Benz SUV?

The smallest Mercedes-Benz SUV is indeed the GLA.
