Why buy an Approved Used Mercedes-Benz A-Class?
Produced since 1996, the A-Class is Mercedes-Benz's most compact model. Starting as a tall compact car before changing into a more familiar and sophisticated hatchback in its third generation, which came along in 2012. You can also get the A-Class in a saloon more recently, too.
This fourth generation made waves due to being the first model to showcase Mercedes-Benz's digital cluster and infotainment screen, which then rolled out to all other Mercedes-Benz models. Engine technology was also impressive and catered to all tastes, thanks to petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid choices.
Petrol engines range from 1.4 litres to 2.0 litres, whilst diesel alternatives are a 2.0-litre. There's also a plug-in hybrid, which is the most economical, returning up to 282mpg. The petrol options typically return up to 47mpg, whilst the diesels return up to 60mpg.
Therefore, running costs will mirror whichever A-Class you opt for, but when it comes to servicing, etc, being the entry-level Mercedes-Benz, prices should be pretty reasonable for most.
As for practicality, the hatchback offers decent space, with a 370-litre boot, increasing to 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded. The PHEV offers 345 litres, or 1,125-litres with seats folded.
There are many decent Mercedes-Benz A-Class models, but it will all come down to personal preference. AMG Line models give the enhanced dyamic look, without the higher running costs of an A 35 or A 45 AMG variant, whilst the now-discontinued A-Class Sedan will appeal to those who may want a more sophisticated look than the regular hatchback A-Class.
No, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Hatchback is not being discontinued, but the Saloon version was discontinued in 2022.
Both models are considered excellent everyday vehicles, however the A-Class is smaller compared to the C-Class, and caters to those looking for a luxurious hatchback compact in size.
Typically, the A-Class is seen as the most luxurious model in the Mercedes-Benz range, but the best class will be subjective to an individual's taste and needs.
Again, both variants have their advantages. For doing a lot of miles, the diesel could be the best option, but if you enjoy a purer driving experience, the petrol could be better suited.
