Produced since 2004, the B-Class is Mercedes-Benz's premium MPV, which is now in its third generation. The MPV has somewhat been overtaken in popularity by the SUV, but a used B-Class is still a rather sophisticated and practical alternative that will be perfect for the right buyer.

Engine choice consists of four mild hybrid petrol engines, ranging from 1.4 to 2.0-litres, with 4MATIC all-wheel drive available on the larger engines. These engines will return in the 40mpg plus range, whilst alternative diesel engines, all featuring a 2.0-litre unit till return up to 62mpg.

Running costs are fairly reasonable for a premium car, with the B-Class requiring routine servicing, available at any Stratstone Mercedes-Benz retailer. Insurance should be pretty reasonable, with the B-Class sitting in groups 15 to 31 out of a possible 50.

As for practicality, being an MPV, the B-Class offers plenty of interior space and makes for an ideal family car. There is also a 445-litre boot - when opting for the diesel engine, as the petrol engines use mild hybrid technology, so space is taken up in the boot, dropping it slightly to 420 litres.
