It does not end there, however, because although the I-PACE is brimming with innovative touches and forward-thinking design, it is the usability that really makes this SUV the perfect representation of an electric future. Jaguar themselves claim that the I-PACE can achieve up to 292 miles (WLTP) on a full-charge, which is a number over double that of most rivals.
Recently, we borrowed the keys to the I-PACE from Jaguar Nottingham so we could experience the benefits for ourselves. However, we also explored five amazing features, which we are now sharing with you.
The battery motors work differently to traditional combustion engines, which comes as no great revelation. However, the Jaguar is able to pre-condition its battery while plugged-in before you get in so that the range is maximised. Think of it as the equivalent of letting a normal car warm up before setting off.
On top of that, the I-PACE will use the pre-conditioning program to bring the cabin up to a suitable temperature. Returning to a cool cabin after some shopping on a scorching summer's day was greatly appreciated.
Touch Pro-Duo InfotainmentThe Jaguar I-PACE is a cutting-edge vehicle that showcases the best of what the present and future has to offer. Jaguar Land Rover's Touch Pro Duo infotainment system complements the I-PACE perfectly because of how effective it is to use on a daily basis.
On the top screen there is access to just about every setting and feature you can think of. The menus are easy to navigate and respond rapidly to inputs. On the bottom screen, the climate control can be adjusted to taste, with plenty of options available to tailor the temperature and flow to suit the driver and passengers.
'Go I-PACE' Phone AppWeirdly, this is an app that is not directly used with the vehicle. Jaguar's 'Go I-PACE' app allows users to get a good idea of how feasible it would be to live with an electric vehicle by monitoring their journey throughout an average week.
The idea is that the app will tell the user how many times they will need to charge throughout the week and then make route recommendations to maximise the range of the car. Most importantly, however, it will tell the user how much money can be saved by making the switch to an I-PACE. We appreciate this app because it takes the guess work out of buying an electric vehicle, making for a more informed decision.
The PACEThis is probably the most childish feature of the I-PACE that we have decided to highlight, but we do not care because this all-electric SUV is one of the most rapid vehicles we have driven.
400bhp and 500lb ft are the headline numbers, which despite the I-PACE weighing over two tons, propels this SUV from 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds. Perhaps the most breathtaking element is that the I-PACE pulls savagely from any speed as soon as you plant the accelerator. It is amazingly good fun and certainly led to a few surprises for sportier cars we encountered on our travels!
New Levels of Satellite-Navigation
Range anxiety is an issue that is consistently voiced when electric vehicles are concerned. Traditionally, a satellite-navigation system will tell you your estimated time of arrival and how many miles are remaining; this is no revelation.
However, the I-PACE appreciates that range anxiety may be an issue and will use data to give you an estimate of how much range will be remaining once you have arrived at your destination. If it does not think you will make it there, then it will recommend charging points that are along the route. Simple, yet effective.
